Introduction.

Hello and welcome to the History of Space Travel and Flight website. In recognition of the achievements of mankind, on this, the 35th anniversary of the first manned mission to the moon and the 100th anniversary of the first flight by the Wright Brothers, we have decided to put together a website that will provide a collection of information on both space travel and flight in general.

This website provides detailed information on almost 100 famous airplanes and general information on hundreds of space missions in the past, present and future. There is also information on almost 50 people involved in the birth of aviation and the space program.

This site is comprised of almost 400 individual web pages, 450 picture files, 25 movies and 20 sound files. It was a massive undertaking, and still only scratches the surface of this fascinating subject.

When one looks at the history of space travel, it is impossible to do so without first considering how man reached space. The first step of course, was to fly. Man's attempts to fly began much earlier than you might suspect, but once we were successful, we took off with blinding speed.

The amount of information on space travel and aviation is incredible, so our team decided to concentrate mainly, where possible, on planes and spacecraft of the United States. We hope this website will prove a valuable asset to anyone who is interested in space travel or aviation. This should prove especially useful to students doing research on these topics. What school-age child is not fascinated by airplanes and space?

Please join us on our journey from the first flight of a hot air balloon to our voyage to the moon, Mars and beyond. Along the way, you will learn about some famous airplanes, spacecraft, astronauts and aviators. You will learn about some of the concepts involved in space travel and flying, some differing theories about the space program and maybe even have some fun.

Sit back, relax and enjoy the ride. The countdown to launch has begun...
