Rodents in Space

Have you ever thought of the types of animals that go into outerspace ? Well , these are some   storys of rodents who have ! In 1951 , some  mice died because their parachute would not open . The Aerobee roket was last launched on  May 22 , 1952 . It carried two mice whse names were Albert & Mildred .  They went 36 miles into space . On September 20 , 1951 a monkey and 11 mice were the first living   organisms to go on a flight that ended with them still living . They went 45 miles into the air . At 50   miles , outerspace is suppose to begin . Another story is of some male albino rats , of the Sprague-Dawley strain,  they were subjects for experiments . 16 rats were on the flight group , while   48 rats were on the ground control group . Each rat weighed around 150 grams and were about 6   weeks old .   Rats have to be taught how to use watering and feeding mechanisms . Two packs of rats were to be launched on the Columbia into space on June 20 . The scientists thought that the experiment would let light shine on a new idea , that is , in astronauts , bone loss. Since rats are live models , Tom Wronski will look at some hormones that are ejected by some glands called the adrenal glands . They secrete the hormones in stress related correspondense
