Laika
the Space Dog!
Hello again, Space Trace here and I will tell you the sad but exciting
story about Laika the Space Dog.

Sputik 2 was just about to take off to space.
But, a dog was in it. Whining and yelping she was strapped in and ready
for the tremendous force about to come.
Many Names for Laika
From what is heard Laika was partly Siberian husky.
She had three names, Laika (Barker in Russain), Kudryavka (Little Curly
in Russain), and Muttnik as the U.S. press named her. She was very young,
only three years old.
Laika Orbits
Many animals went to space but none had
ever orbited the Earth like Laika did. She was still very much alive at
that moment. She orbited the Earth but something happened...
Laika's Accident
The batteries ran down and the air started running
out. Sadly, Laika started to loose all hopes of seeing Earth again. Then,
on April 14, 1958, the Sputnik 2 burned in the Earth's atmosphere as it
fell.
Laika REMEMBERED!
Laika was a very brave dog . So, she will
be remembered always. In fact, there is a monument in Moscow. That is where
she was trained.
So, I don't know what you are thinking but, just
like the people during her accident, she has captured my heart, too.
