©PDPhoto.org.Pigs were introduced to mainland Australia in the 1770’s. It is
unknown the year. Between the 18th century and the 19th century,
pigs were brought to Australia as domesticated farm animals.
During the 19th century, domestic pigs were taken to different
settlements in various parts of the continent as a food source
for other settlements and colonies.
Due to inadequate enclosed
areas and inadequate control in these times, feral pig
populations were soon established in the wild. Intentional
introductions by recreational hunters throughout the settlement
of this country to present day assisted in the establishment of
populations of feral pigs in other areas.
