What the President was doing on 9/11
During the terrorist attacks

6:00 a.m. – President George Bush awakes at the Colony, a tennis resort in Longboat Key, Florida.

9:00 a.m. – Bush arrives at a Sarasota Florida school to promote his education program.  The White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card tells him that a plane has crashed into the World Trade center.

9:05 a.m. – The President is sitting in with a 2nd grade class when Andrew Card whispers to him that yet another plane has struck the twin towers.

9:12 a.m. – Bush leaves the school and is in touch with the New York officials as well as Vice President Dick Cheney at the White House.

9:30 a.m. – With students and teachers looking on, President Bush having been briefed by National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, delivers his first official remarks on the catastrophe, “We have had a national tragedy. Two of our planes have crashed into the World Trade Center in an apparent terrorist attack on our country.”  He orders a full-scale investigation to hunt down and find those folks who committed these acts and says he will immediately return to Washington.

• Between 7:45 a.m. and 8:10 a.m. EDT - Four airplanes were hijacked from east coast airports.
• 8:46 a.m. EDT - The first airplane crashed into the North tower of the World Trade Center in New York City.
• 9:03 a.m. EDT - The second airplane crashed into the South tower of the World Trade Center.
• 9:43 a.m. EDT - The third airplane crashed into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C..
• 10:05 a.m. EDT - The South tower of the World Trade Center collapsed.
• 10:10 a.m. EDT - The fourth airplane crashed into a field in Somerset County, Pennsylvania.
• 10:28 a.m. EDT - The North tower collapsed.
• 5:20 p.m. EDT - A third building at the World Trade Center collapsed.
