To skip Flash intro click here Aloha! Our website focuses on retelling different Hawaiian Myths and Legends along with a modern "Urban Legend"; the story of the "NoFace Lady". In old Hawai'i these tales were passed down orally from one person to the next. Usually the Kupuna(Grandparents) or Kahuna (priest) would pass these stories down or they would be told in chants or with hula. All of these stories were memorized by heart, none of them were written down. Even the very long story of creation of the Kumulipo was memorized by heart. Only when the missionaries came to Hawai'i was a written language developed. Good and bad came with the missionaries. Although they meant well, hula was banned for being too provacative and one of the ways of passing along these stories was almost lost. Luckily, today, the Hawaiian language is coming back strong and more and more families are deciding to raise their children speaking Hawaiian and attending Hawaiian Immersion schools. We salute their dedication to keeping a beautiful and powerful language and culture alive. Here we have shared some of the old stories of Hawai'i in a modern form; clay animation, Flash, and Hyperstudio. We hope you enjoy our retellings, but more importantly we hope that our pages kindle your curiousity about Hawai'i and its legends, history and people.
