Who was James Monroe ?

James Monroe was born in Viginia, another President of the Virginia Dynasty. In 1776, he graduated from the College of William and Mary, and began practicing law. Fourteen years later, he was elected to the U.S. Senate, and then served as Minister to France. In 1816, he was elected President, and re-elected in 1820, winning all but 4 electoral votes.

As President, Monroe followed nationalist policies. His foreign policy was firm, but domestically, he was not able to resolve sectional issues.
